C. K. Cooper & Company was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of C & K Capital Corporation, and a sister company to Paladin Capital Partners, Inc., a registered investment advisor. The services provided by C. K. Cooper & Company were expanded in 1996, when a management team led by Alexander G. Montano purchased the firm. Initially, the firm specialized in and was recognized for its quality independent research materials on "Micro-Cap" oil and natural gas producers. In particular, the research universe was defined as domestic exploration and production companies with a market capitalization of less than $500 million.
